spirit of discipline

Spirit Daily - Daily spiritual news from around the world:

"Just as demons are most powerfully cast away when they are named, so does a good spirit arrive when requested from the Holy Spirit (in the Name of Jesus).
Ask for the grace of a disciplined mind, body, and spirit.
Mind over flesh. Spirit over mind. Victory. Be specific.
That is our connection with Jesus.
Ask for specific matters you need to change.
With that spirit, we can accomplish remarkable changes, and with prayer we can make the impossible possible."

How Would I Know

HOW WOULD I KNOW by Kathy Troccoli (CD)LOVE & MERCY

If it wasn't for the times that I was down
If it wasn't for the time that I was bound
For all the times I wondered How I would ever make it through
All of the times the I couldn't see my way And I had to turn to you

(Chorus) How would I know you could deliver
How would I know you could set free
If there had never been a battle
How would I know the victory
How would I know you could be faithful To meet all of my needs Lord, I appreciate the hard times Otherwise "HOW WOULD I KNOW"

I remember all the times I had to cry
And at the time all I could do was wonder why
Why a God so kind and loving Allow me to go through all this pain
If I could see into he future Then I would know the joy I'd gain

How would I know you could make a way out of no way
How would I know if I never had a need
Brother, I know what you're going through
Sister, I know cuase I've been in your shoes
But I can truly say that I know what God can do

(chorus) How would I know you could deliver How would I know you could set free If there had never been a battle How would I know the victory How would I know you could be faithful to meet all of my needs Lord I appreciate the hard times Otherwise "HOW WOULD I KNOW"

Resist the Devil

theTrumpet.com

"A vitally important strategy for surviving this war, then, is to guard your mind. The more you allow Satan to engage you on that battlefield, the weaker you will become—the more susceptible to his wiles. He will fool you into thinking that you’re strong enough to handle a little bit of wrong thinking—but you cannot entertain evil thoughts in moderation. The key is to immediately reject all wrong thoughts (2 Corinthians 10:5). The more you challenge his advances, the stronger you will become and the less effect he will have on you. “… Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). This is the key to surviving the war against immorality.

Instead of plopping yourself down in front of the boob tube, for example, use your leisure time to build your mind—filling it with good things that will provide ammunition in this war (Philippians 4:8). Read a good book, exercise to stay fit, or take a class to learn about something. (Incidentally, the Imperial College Bible Correspondence Course is an excellent way to learn about your Bible! It’s a three-year course that we offer absolutely free.) Update your knowledge and skills to be a more valuable employee. Fix things around the house, do some gardening or landscaping and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine. Develop a hobby or two, visit the sick, write letters or cheer someone up with a phone call. Volunteer at the local library, zoo or charity. Play games with your children. Spend time with them! There are many better things to do than watch an inordinate amount of tv. You will be happier because of it, and so will your children."

prayer

faith2

"Once we identify a problem in our lives, we verbalize its remedy. We do this in prayer. We remove thoughts of illness and failure and fear. We replace them with hope -- with knowing that God will do what is best for us. If it is right for us that the prayer be answered, then God will work the miracle. We don't deny the presence of a problem; we don't hide our heads in the sand. And we certainly don't lie to ourselves. But we do deny the power of a problem over our divine right to remove it.

We have the right. That's how good God is."

Idolatry in the Home

Idolatry in the Home : A Catholic Reflection
Today we don't get into statues of idols, but many homes still worship "the god of the present age" (2 Cor 4:4), that is, a lifestyle of comfort, sex, money, power, and secular humanism as presented through the media. Often, today's homes enthrone the TV or home entertainment system. It's not an idol of gold or silver, but it's still surrounded by "worshipers" who eat sacrificial meals (or at least snacks) as they sacrifice their prime time prostrating themselves before the household "statue."

Ummm...Computer? Food as emotional crutch?

Focus on Jesus

WorldNetDaily: Why so many Americans today are 'mentally ill': "Toward the end of my son's Boy Scout troop meeting not too long ago, the scoutmaster stood up and used his customary 'Scoutmaster Minute' to retell the famous story an old Cherokee chief supposedly told his grandson. The chief said: 'A fight is going on inside me. It is a terrible battle – between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, pride, envy, lust, greed, arrogance, self-pity, resentment, lies and cruelty. 'The other wolf stands for honesty, kindness, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, friendship, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. 'This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too,' he added. The grandson reflected on these words for a minute and then asked his grandfather, 'Which wolf will win?' The old chief simply replied, 'The one you feed.'"

My 'Table of the Lord' mentor gave me some encouraging words yesterday that go along with this very well...she said..."Glance at the circumstances around you, BUT focus on Jesus."

Abundant Life

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may
have life, and have it abundantly." ~John 10:10

.=: M E D I T A T I O N F O R T H E D A Y :=.

We can have life and have it more abundantly--spiritual, mental, physical,
abundant life--joyous, powerful life. These we can have if we follow the
right way. Not all people will accept from God the gift of an abundant
life, a gift held out free to all. Not all people care to stretch out a
hand and take it. God's gift, the richest God has to offer, is the
precious
gift of abundant life. People often turn away from it, reject it, and will
have none of it. We need not let this be true of us.

.=: P R A Y E R F O R T H E D A Y :=.

I pray that I may hasten to accept the gift of abundant spiritual life. I
pray that I may live the good life to the best of my ability.

follow His ways exactly...

USCCB - (NAB) - August 13, 2007

"Moses said to the people:
“And now, Israel, what does the LORD, your God, ask of you
but to fear the LORD, your God, and follow his ways exactly,
to love and serve the LORD, your God,
with all your heart and all your soul,
to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD
which I enjoin on you today for your own good?
Think! The heavens, even the highest heavens,
belong to the LORD, your God,
as well as the earth and everything on it."

Wow...what a week...I can't even begin to write it all down. It has just been one long attack on the family after another. The damage has been done and I'm now 'limping' along. It is now time to re-start. Step one is to re-focus on the Lord instead of all the troubles surrounding me...it doesn't mean that I will shut my eyes to those that are hurting...but merely that I choose to ponder on the workings of the Lord and marvelous deeds that He will do with all of this mess that I have placed in His hands, instead of on the problems themselves. Step 2 is full throttle obedience. Little disobediences open the door to the evil one's workings and full obdience does the opposite...it shuts doors in his face.

Tatoos and body piercings

The Latin Mass – The Journal of Catholic Culture and Tradition

I've recently started seeing the trend towards lots of of tatoos and body piercings and not all in younger people who don't know better. I've also seen some of these people's lives take a really wrong turn and I started wondering...which came first? Did they open themselves up to evil at the time of the tattoo...or was the tattoo merely an outward expression of what was going on inside them already? I still don't have those answers...but the above article clearifies things alot...especially in an era where everything is 'ok'.

Slothfulness

Proverbs 19:15
"Laziness brings on deep sleep; an idle person will suffer hunger".

The Lord is bringing to my attention lately how many areas of my life that I've given up responsibility for...my eating, for example. I have been on the 'see food diet' for a while now...lol..you know...you see food, and you eat it. That's not what the Lord wants from us. We are to live our lives intentionally, with Him guiding us...anything else is plain laziness! It brings on 'deep sleep'...unconsciousness! Where our lives just get stolen from us! We will 'suffer hunger'...because only a life of grace, which again is a life lived intentionally with Jesus can trully satisfy us. All else just leaves us craving for more. It also robs us of the pleasures and treasures that the Lord is wanting to give to us.

Day 2

"Become accustomed to discerning whether you are experiencing physical hunger (hunger pangs) or soul hunger (the desire to be full and satisfied). If your belly is not growling, and yet you are tempted to eat, keep a Bible nearby to pick up and read.

Begin calling out to God for help to be able to turn from food, when not hungry, and to turn to Christ.

Print out something like the follow statement in a place you will see it often - on your refrigerator, car dash, or bathroom mirror, for instance -

No food will satisfy my heart or fill the emptiness in my soul. Jesus Christ is "real meat" and the "bread of life," and I am to feed on Him."

During today's lesson the thing that convicted me most was the need for me to get back to daily Mass and receive my Lord in the Eucharist.

"When first denying ourselves what we are accustomed to eating, our bodies will have cravings. These cravings are normal, but we do not have to satisfy them. It's OK to be in discomfort, it's OK to deny ourselves. Use the cravings of the body to turn you to Christ; go to Him often to feed on and drink of Him."

I need to cut back on my sugar and white flour intake...I know that it is going to 'hurt' and have been putting it off. I know that with God's strength I can do it though.

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Lay it down (Jaci Velasquez)

unclean lips

This people honour me with their lips...:

"This people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me"

Lords Table - Day 01

<blockquote>
> "Woe is me, for I am undone!
> Because I am a man of unclean lips,
> And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
> For my eyes have seen the King,
> The LORD of hosts" (Isaiah 6:1-5).
>
> One interesting thing to note is that as Isaiah saw the glory of God he
> was humbled, and he saw his sin most clearly. If we see the glory of
> God, we too will see our own uncleanness, and will need to cry out for
> grace as Isaiah did.
</blockquote>

I've been struggling with this lately...not seeing my 'sin' clearly. The
Catholic Church seperates sins into two catergories...venial and mortal. I
for one tend to discount the 'little ones'...but enough venial sins and you
become so blinded that you can't see the big ones coming. Sort of like the
frog in warm water...

http://allaboutfrogs.org/stories/boiled.html

I just started a Bible Study to help me get control over my sin of gluttony.
I will be posting here and over at p2 as I go along.

My prayer for today is for the Lord to show me my sin clearly so that I can
cry out to God. My motives on this needs to be right...this is not so that I
can lose weight to look good and have everyone impressed with how wonderful
I'm doing. This is to be set free from the bondage of this particular sin
and to be able to glorify God...

Black Light : A Catholic Reflection

Black Light : A Catholic Reflection: "What programs do you watch? What do you listen to? Would Jesus say your eyes are good or bad? (Mt 6:22-23) Repent of focusing on the world's input. Instead, read Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Be immersed in Jesus, for He has called us 'from darkness into His marvelous light' (1 Pt 2:9).
PRAYER: Jesus, may I never prefer the darkness to You (Jn 3:19; 8:12). Help me to follow You always and be in the light (Jn 8:12)."

Little Sins

Spirit Daily - Daily spiritual news from around the world

"What is a "little sin"?

There are the small "white" lies. Are you guilty of fudging, of exaggeration, of "fibbing"? A lie is a lie. There is stealing. When we gossip -- when we're overly critical -- we are taking joy from another or stealing from a reputation. God wants us to practice vigilance over our interior lives. He wants self-regulation. When we don't, we fall into the capital sins of pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, or sloth.

All these plug us up. All these remove the joy of the moment."

Turn the other cheek

Spirit Daily - Daily spiritual news from around the world

"It's when we engage with someone who is attacking or bothering us or even talk about it that the sting, the nettle, the venom, remains.

Talking about evil can give it power and when it does a curse germinates.

When we focus on an itch, or play around with a cut, it gets worse and there can be an infection. We all know that a small infection (in an innocuous place like your finger) can become systemic, affecting the entire body and in some cases even leading to death.

So too does infection take root in the dimension of spirits.

The more we focus on it, the more the evil presents itself.

That puts us under a cloud. It blocks grace. When people are mad, they are often wishing negative things upon us and those negative desires will land if we give them the opportunity to. When we ignore insult, it closes the door to infiltration.

One of the greatest tests of life thus is to do this, to turn the other cheek. If we love whoever insults us and return good for evil, harboring no ill will, the curse will not "alight," to use the expression from Proverbs."

F.E.A.R

Good News Ministry
"Failure to trust God results in fear and troubled hearts, because fear always lies to us. Remember it this way: F.E.A.R. = False Evidence Appearing Real. To regain the peace that Jesus has given you, first identify the lies that your fears have been saying. Then ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what the truth is. Listen carefully. If you need help discerning his voice, talk to a spiritual director or a prayerful Christian friend. Once it becomes audible, trust in that truth. And act upon it."

Imagine!

Last night was our first prayer meeting since we finished the Life in the Spirit Seminar. Our Eucharistic Lord was present before us. I have no words! We surrounded the altar and praised Him in unison...a foretaste of Heaven for sure. When Fr. Ron picked up the Monstrance and presented Him to us for healing...the tears just flowed! Thank You Jesus for what you are doing in my life. I'm in total awe.

attitude of gratitude

I've been through quite a bit rough waters lately and it is so easy to get down on things and people. However lately the Lord has put in my heart the need to be thankful for all that He has done for me.

I was reading 'God's Word Today' and towards the bottom of the page it stated this "...deliverance comes first and should be followed by an attitude of thanksgiving, faithfulness, and obedience on the part of anyone called to serve God's people'.
