Slothfulness

Proverbs 19:15
"Laziness brings on deep sleep; an idle person will suffer hunger".

The Lord is bringing to my attention lately how many areas of my life that I've given up responsibility for...my eating, for example. I have been on the 'see food diet' for a while now...lol..you know...you see food, and you eat it. That's not what the Lord wants from us. We are to live our lives intentionally, with Him guiding us...anything else is plain laziness! It brings on 'deep sleep'...unconsciousness! Where our lives just get stolen from us! We will 'suffer hunger'...because only a life of grace, which again is a life lived intentionally with Jesus can trully satisfy us. All else just leaves us craving for more. It also robs us of the pleasures and treasures that the Lord is wanting to give to us.

Day 2

"Become accustomed to discerning whether you are experiencing physical hunger (hunger pangs) or soul hunger (the desire to be full and satisfied). If your belly is not growling, and yet you are tempted to eat, keep a Bible nearby to pick up and read.

Begin calling out to God for help to be able to turn from food, when not hungry, and to turn to Christ.

Print out something like the follow statement in a place you will see it often - on your refrigerator, car dash, or bathroom mirror, for instance -

No food will satisfy my heart or fill the emptiness in my soul. Jesus Christ is "real meat" and the "bread of life," and I am to feed on Him."

During today's lesson the thing that convicted me most was the need for me to get back to daily Mass and receive my Lord in the Eucharist.

"When first denying ourselves what we are accustomed to eating, our bodies will have cravings. These cravings are normal, but we do not have to satisfy them. It's OK to be in discomfort, it's OK to deny ourselves. Use the cravings of the body to turn you to Christ; go to Him often to feed on and drink of Him."

I need to cut back on my sugar and white flour intake...I know that it is going to 'hurt' and have been putting it off. I know that with God's strength I can do it though.

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Lay it down (Jaci Velasquez)

unclean lips

This people honour me with their lips...:

"This people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me"

Lords Table - Day 01

> "Woe is me, for I am undone!
> Because I am a man of unclean lips,
> And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
> For my eyes have seen the King,
> The LORD of hosts" (Isaiah 6:1-5).
>
> One interesting thing to note is that as Isaiah saw the glory of God he
> was humbled, and he saw his sin most clearly. If we see the glory of
> God, we too will see our own uncleanness, and will need to cry out for
> grace as Isaiah did.

I've been struggling with this lately...not seeing my 'sin' clearly. The
Catholic Church seperates sins into two catergories...venial and mortal. I
for one tend to discount the 'little ones'...but enough venial sins and you
become so blinded that you can't see the big ones coming. Sort of like the
frog in warm water...

I just started a Bible Study to help me get control over my sin of gluttony.
I will be posting here and over at p2 as I go along.

My prayer for today is for the Lord to show me my sin clearly so that I can
cry out to God. My motives on this needs to be right...this is not so that I
can lose weight to look good and have everyone impressed with how wonderful
I'm doing. This is to be set free from the bondage of this particular sin
and to be able to glorify God...

Black Light : A Catholic Reflection

Black Light : A Catholic Reflection: "What programs do you watch? What do you listen to? Would Jesus say your eyes are good or bad? (Mt 6:22-23) Repent of focusing on the world's input. Instead, read Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Be immersed in Jesus, for He has called us 'from darkness into His marvelous light' (1 Pt 2:9).
PRAYER: Jesus, may I never prefer the darkness to You (Jn 3:19; 8:12). Help me to follow You always and be in the light (Jn 8:12)."

Little Sins

Spirit Daily - Daily spiritual news from around the world

"What is a "little sin"?

There are the small "white" lies. Are you guilty of fudging, of exaggeration, of "fibbing"? A lie is a lie. There is stealing. When we gossip -- when we're overly critical -- we are taking joy from another or stealing from a reputation. God wants us to practice vigilance over our interior lives. He wants self-regulation. When we don't, we fall into the capital sins of pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, or sloth.

All these plug us up. All these remove the joy of the moment."
